Browsing and saved items

You can read the news without signing in. Essential cookies keep your browser’s private saved searches, clips, watches, and followed sources together. Clearing those cookies removes access to items saved only through that browser.

Google sign-in and sync

If you choose Google sign-in, Google provides a verified account identifier, name, and email address. OnScene uses the identifier to keep your saved items together across devices. Your current browser’s saved items move into that account when you sign in. OnScene does not request access to your Gmail, Google Drive, contacts, or calendar, and does not receive your Google password.

Your account details and saved items are stored in OnScene’s private Cloudflare database. Session cookies keep you signed in for up to 30 days. Signing out on a device ends that device’s session; your saved items remain in your account. You can remove saves, watches, and followed sources through the app. City desk layout and story visit history remain local to each browser.

Usage measurements

OnScene records aggregate page views, searches, source clicks, and save actions, and uses Google Analytics to understand site performance and usage. Account identifiers, names, and email addresses are not sent to analytics. Raw topic searches are not included in OnScene’s aggregate statistics. Tracking respects browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals.

External sources and players

Opening a publisher link takes you to that publisher’s service. Embedded video and scanner players contact their operators when loaded. Those services have their own privacy policies and may receive ordinary connection information, including your IP address. Browser notification subscriptions are used only for your OnScene watch updates and require your permission.

Hosting

Cloudflare delivers this site and processes connection information to operate and protect it. News reports and publisher images are public source material; your private saved items are not published or included in the sitemap.
